The creation of the album involved the exploration upon ritual music instrumentation, music therapy, creation by the heart rate of the musician instead of a metronome, and creation with a metronome.

The artist perceives the heart rate of the musician as the bpm of the track, and the frequency relating to the wavelength of the brain.

Side A

Track 1 - Between Noise & Sound

The track involves the tibetan spirit bowl and an acoustic guitar.

Tibetan spirit bowl is known to have a certain relaxing frequencies which are produced by the stick hitting the bowl to produce the sound.

“This sound frequency known as that of Perfection impacts the sympathetic nervous system as your brain waves synchronize to the vibrations of the bowls. The harmonic vibrations engage the relaxation reflex and slow down the respiratory, brain and heart rate and disrupt the pain reflex creating a deep sense of well being.” (Mandle, 2016)

This sound is used in ceremonial rituals and is known as Sound Healing.

“Sound Healing is an effective and proven modality that uses vibrational sound to help reduce stress, alter consciousness and create a deep sense of peace, well being and better health. Sound has also been shown to be a vital part of the healing process for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and side effects especially for pain relief management.” (Mandle, 2016)

The artist would rearrange recordings of the spirit bowl to create new patterns and melodies. Guitar recordings were also rearranged and in some cases reversed resulting in new musical content. This recording was guided by the artist's heartbeat as well as the movement of the song.

Track 2 - Every Demon Binaural Beats Version

Binaural Beats are a phenomena used in Music Therapy. The use of this phenomena helps synchronise our brain wavelength by the use of certain frequencies. There are different stages which can be reached by the use of these beats in different frequencies.

“There are four main brainwave frequency ranges who determine our mental state. They are all below 30 Hz and out of our normal range of hearing. We all need a balance of these brainwave states for optimal health.

Beta (14 – 30 Hz) – This is our awake and active state of awareness. In Beta state, we have lots of energy as we get things done and are in our peak concentration mode. If we stay in this mode too much, it can be very stressful to our minds and bodies.

Alpha (8 – 14 Hz) This is our awake but relaxed state of awareness. In this state we can figure out creative solutions to problems. Our mind is clear and able focus on a goal. When we watch top performing athletes, chess players or jazz musicians, they are drawing from their alpha state of awareness.

Theta (4 – 8 Hz) This state is associated with imagining and dreaming during sleep as well as imagining and daydreaming during the day. Our memories and things we learn are stored and retrieved from our subconscious mind in this state.

Delta (0.5 – 4 Hz) This state is associated with deep sleep. Our minds and bodies are getting the rest and rejuvenation we require before the new day begins.” (Arnold, 2013)

The first section of the track reflect the Alpha state. The second section reflect the Theta state.

The use of headphones for this track is a must, the length of the track is 10 minutes to allow the Binaural Beat the time length needed for the process to effect the listener.

Side B

Track 3 - I Don’t Love You Anymore

The song “I Don’t Love You Anymore” was first composed and written in December 2014 by the artist.

The lyrical content relates to a number of situations the artist was exposed to throughout her life. This song was written as a source of outlet of emotion, the arrangement was done while composing the lyrical content.

To the artist creating music is a process which mostly involves the guitar and her voice. As well as the artist decision of listening to her own heartbeat as guidance.

“Try to synchronize the rhythm of the song to the rhythm of your heart beat. I know it sounds a little spiritual but surprisingly ,music that its pace is depending on heart rate is often able to synchronize with other works… Try not to worship the metronome while recording , allow yourself to move slightly in the rhythm and make this release another tool for your expression while playing” (Kurito, 2013:28)

Recording to the sense of one's heartbeat creates a natural movement within the track and allows the listener to to absorb and synchronise with the rhythm and melodic content of the song.

Track 4 - Chasing Thunder

The song “Chasing Thunder” was first composed and written in August 2014 by the artist.

The artist wrote this song while on vacation in Lake Garda, Italy. The artist’s younger sister contributed to the lyrical content based on her perception of the song's meaning.

The song was written as both a reflection of dealing with a situation through the other person’s point of view, as well as an indication of the artist’s vision which is reflected in the course section of the song.

This track was recorded by the guid of the musicians heart rate.

Track 5 - Every Demon

In this version of the song “Every Demon” the artist decided to use a click for these recordings.

performing with a click has the benefit of creating a track which has a consistent rhythm throughout the song. Therefore the artist decided to create this track with an indication of a consistent rhythm by a metronome. The creation of music for the artist is the true channel for expression and to maintain a stable calm daily routine.

Summary

The ability of the human mind to organize sound to certain patterns, which we call music, is a magnificently powerful tool which throughout history was used for healing purposes, meditation and in current day music therapy. The creation of this album is an exploration of different elements and instrumentation.

“Music has magical powers. It can transport you into an altered state, heal sickness, purify the body and mind, and work miracles in nature. In the Old Testament David cures Saul’s madness with a harp, and the walls of Jericho were brought tumbling down by horns.” (Harnum, 2010:15)
